CAD/CAM

CAD/CAM stands for Computer Aided Design/ Computer Aided Manufacturing. These are basically used to design and manufacture the products. It implies that an engineer can use it both the purposes i.e. to design the product as well as to manufacture the process.

MATLAB

MATLAB is a short form for matrix laboratory. It is basically a fourth generation environment and a numerical computing environment. IT allows various complex functions such as implementation of algorithms, plotting of data and functions, matrix manipulations, interfacing with other programs written in various other languages such as C/C++, FORTRAN, and Java. MATLAB has an optional toolbox and an additional package which provides certain add on features.

The users of MATLAB can be from various backgrounds such as science, engineering, economics etc.

SAS

SAS is a short form of Statistical Analytical System. It is business level software which handles vast amount of data, generate reports etc. Various functions that can be performed using SAS are:

• Data entry, retrieval, mining and management
• Statistical analysis
• Report writing
• Business planning, decision making and forecasting
• Application development
• Platform independent
• Quality improvement

Etc.

In case of SAS, SAS programs are written to perform a series of operations on the stored data.  A SAS program has 3 main parts which are as follows:

• A Macro Language

SPSS

SPSS is a short form for Statistical Package for Social Sciences. This is a computer program which is mainly used for deployment and authoring, statistical analysis, data mining, collaboration and deployment, text analysis etc.
